Classic Car Cruise-In --
One Big Event
on May 28, 2011
Started just three years
ago, Downtown Crossville, Inc's Classic Car Cruise-Ins have proven to be a
fantastic time for the whole family.
Growing every month, the event has become too successful to hold monthly
- so plan to attend the bigger and better, once a year, Classic Car Cruise-In
on Saturday, May 28th from 1-5pm. Amazing classic vehicles will
line up side to side from Neecham Street to Lantana and spilling over on the side streets
west of Main
Street. Hundreds of owners share their love and
passion for art of collecting and restoring classic vehicles.
Coordinated by Downtown
Crossville, Inc partnering with Dave Kirk Auto, the Classic Car Cruise-In
offers a live DJ and live entertainment throughout the afternoon from the big
stage on Fourth
Street. Bill Melton, our live DJ from the very
beginning, brings a smile to all faces with his classic car music played around
the Courthouse lawn. Patton James offers
a Rockabilly flavor to classic car music.
Back from their successful debut last year, Patton James will take the
stage at 2pm.
Make sure and sign up for
door prizes under the big tent on the Courthouse lawn. Local businesses such as Dave's Pawn Shop,
Mayberry's, and Best One Tire have donated fabulous prizes that will be given
out throughout the event. Register at
the special table for the Cumberland County Playhouse and win tickets to season
hits such as Duck Hunter Shoots Angel, My Fair Lady, and Little Shop of
Horrors. Feeling patriotic, enjoy our
downtown wide playing of the National Anthem at approximately 1:30.
Downtown restaurants
including Fortes, Fifth Street Diner, and Bagels on Main will keep people well fed along with local food vendors offering
hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, and fried pies.
Looking for something to cool down the hot weather can be found at
Mitchell Drugs - famous milkshakes from the old fashioned soda fountain - and
gelato and ice cream from Nick's Italian Ice.
Eager to welcome visitors
and patrons, downtown merchants welcome crowds into their stores with special
offerings and deals. French's Shoes,
French's Boots, Three Stones, The Screen Door, Hills Department Store,
Celebrations, Southern Charm, and Bella Butik will all have Cruise-In specials
In order to offer our
visitors the most diverse and exciting activities and organizations at our
summer Classic Car Cruise-In, Downtown Crossville, Inc is pleased to welcome
the following organizations and activities to please our crowds:
* A popular part of our
Classic Car Cruise-Ins since the very beginning, Ladies Day at the Depot offers
women something of their very own - something not usually done at a
Cruise-In. Feedback on what it would
take to have the region's best Cruise-In, Ladies Day at the Depot was created
to offer local small businesses aimed at women the opportunity to take
advantage of the large crowd and for ladies in the crowd to find something just
for them. Located in and around the
historic Depot, Ladies Day at the Depot offers booths and tents with cookware,
jewelry, clothing, make-up, crafts, and other women related goods. Organizations like Mary Kay, Stampin-Up,
Lasting Impression, Tupperware, Miche Magnetic Handbags, Scentsy Candles, Avon,
Creative Memories, and Pampered Chefs are just a few of the special vendors
that will be some of the organizations participating in this summer's
Cruise-In. Any local business targeting
women is welcome to participate by calling Suzann Griffith at 931-707-1497.
* Art lessons for kids -
located at the northeast corner of the Courthouse lawn, the Art Guild at
Fairfield Glade sponsors these free lessons.
One of the highlights of the 2010 Cruise-ins was the painting of a full
size paper mache horse - fun for all ages.
* Genealogy research - new
to the Cruise-Ins, Downtown Crossville, Inc. welcomes the staff from the Cumberland County Archives Family Heritage Center of the Art Circle Public Library.
Set up on the sidewalk at the south entrance of the Courthouse lawn, the
staff and volunteers will show participants how to begin the process of
researching their family history.
* Animal Watering Area -
located behind the Gazebo on the north side of the Courthouse lawn, the Girl
Scouts will offer pets of all types and sizes water to drink and kiddie pools
to enjoy. Local Girl Scouts will work
toward special badges by participating in the Cruise-In.
* An integral part of our
Classic Car Cruise-In, Special Interest Alley offers community non-profits,
including civic groups, social service groups, and arts groups, the opportunity
to communicate and interact with the community.
Located on the sidewalk just off the south end of Main Street on the Courthouse lawn, local organizations share
their organization's message. Organizations
like the Vietnam Veteran's Association, the Kiwanis, the Community Band, Cumberland Medical Center, and Angel
Food will be some of the organizations participating in May.
* In its second year, Car
Lovers Alley offers true car aficionados the opportunity to explore local car
lover businesses. Located on 2nd Street east of Main Street on the south side of the Courthouse lawn, local
car businesses show off their special talents and materials. Organizations like Precision Kote Powder
Coating and Sandblasting, Marcka Auto Auction, Hagarty Insurance, and
Tri-County NAPA Parts & Equipment will be part of the Cruise-In.
Any local vehicle related
business is welcome to participate.
* An exciting new part of
the Classic Car Cruise-In, Booster Alley offers the community the opportunity
to support our local sports teams and school organizations. Located near North Street in front of Plateau Properties and behind the
triangle building, teams and organizations from all County schools are welcome
to set up a booth or tent to raise awareness and funds. Any school organization, team, or group is
welcome to participate.
* A growing part of our
Classic Car Cruise-In, the Farmer's Market Alley offers visitors the chance to
support our local farmers and farm businesses.
Located on 1st Street just east of Main Street, this special market is a perfect location to buy local vegetables
and fruit, homemade bread and pastries, and other related items. If history repeats itself, make sure you
visit early in the Cruise-In before farmers sell out of the most popular
items. Any local farm is welcome to
participate.
Supported by the City of Crossville, Cumberland County Government, Crossville
Wholesale Carpet, and Frontier Communications, admission is free for
everyone. Main Street will be closed at noon to prepare for the Cruise-In. Visitors are requested to park east of Main Street in parking lots behind the Cravens Building, Taylor Professional
Building, and the First United Methodist Church. Questions – call Downtown
Crossville, Inc at 931-787-1324.
